The ICC has fined Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka player Asitha Fernando 25 per cent of their match fees after a tense exchange on the field. The incident took place on 24 August 2026 during the Test match in Colombo. During the fixture, Jaiswal hit Fernando with his head while on the square, drawing swift action from match officials. Both Cricinfo and the ICC confirmed the penalties issued to the players for bad behaviour.
Following the ruling, Jaiswal took the penalty but maintained his position. He stated that he acted appropriately during the on-field clash. Speaking to Indulge Express, he stressed that India would continue to fight hard in their following games despite the recent confrontation.
