Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has pulled a death warrant for William Lee Thompson, 74, who was convicted of murder in Miami-Dade County. It is the first time DeSantis has pulled back an execution order. A second execution was still set to go ahead Tuesday.
The reversal came days after a problematic lethal injection involving Christa Pike raised fresh scrutiny over Florida's lethal injection process. The governor gave no immediate public explanation for pulling the warrant for Thompson in particular.
